Promoting diversity in the global world

Globalisation is a term that affects people who don't even know the meaning of the term.
I was in Kolkata once and I was longing to see women in traditional sarees, wearing bright red bindis. But, lo.. I met girls who were no different than Bangalore teens. All looking GLOBAL, wearing jeans...I have nothing against jeans. Long live Lee and Levi... But, I was thinking what would happen if everyone looked similar and wore similar clothes? What happens to our rich traditions?
Who will keep navarathiri kolu? Who will wear payal? When you look at history, our kings made unique monuments which we appreciate today. What will we leave for history? Will our future love our history? Don't all buildings look alike? How is India different from US now? All malls look alike.. I don't know if we should even worry about this..
It's just a thought I had.. I read what AR Rahman told about the new generation of singers. He said the internet has helped people explore and accept so many new voices which we would not have accepted a decade ago. Earlier there was only SPB and Chitra. Now we accept so many voices. It's also so much more competitive for singers today as no one seems to get more than 2 songs a year.
We have fridge magnet making as a career option.. So, many things are good...So, why not promote local culture too? Why don't we encourage our women to wear traditional clothes? Let's preservce our culture and heritage. No need to be proud or anything. Just preserve it so that when you cross 200 kms, you have something new to see... smell and eat..It's nice to have diversity.
Else, everyone will be eating pizzas and McDs only. No one will get to taste Dal bati churma or masala dosa or rajma or ilish maas. Those who do not globalise will perish without a trace. Let's not let that happen.
