Vidarbha suicides and being a conscientious citizen

Just a few days ago I was thinking of visiting some rural area to see how different they are from urban India. To assess their lifestyles, to understand their sources of income, their avenues of expenditure, what they buy, what matters to them, has theTV or internet changed their lifestyle, their choices and aspirations or they are  unaffected?
Rural India constitutes 65-70% of the population. We better pay heed to them. We urbanites are drowned in our urban lives. We have no clue who sows the paddy, from where our cup of tea comes from and how the farmer who is supplying our daily food is struggling (some are hugely prosperous too and I don't care about them).

While I am thinking of this, I read in today's newspaper that 23 farmers comitted suicide this month! The excess rains destroyed their crops. They are in huge debt. Who is responsible for untimely rains? Mostly the urbanites. I am not sure... is globalization a good thing? Are we global gas guzzlers responsible for erratic weather that has affected Vidarbha farmers? What is the Govt doing? Doesn't it have to protect the rural people? The Hindu article says that the relief proposed in 2006 has just come! I am sure so many people will take a huge bite of that money before it reaches even a couple of the really needful ones. U get the picture right?

It pains me immensely. How to protect our farmers? They are the heart and soul of the country, not the elite MBAs or IT guys.

I wish we bring up our children in a conscientious way, so that they stand for ethics and morals and think of doing good to others and never usurping something which is meant for others, even when they themselves go hungry. When we have such citizens who care for others, we will have a better world to live in. Knowing that the world is in good shape and no one is threatening anybody, then, we can peacefully carry on with our personal goals. I feel like creating a new village, far away from the urban madness, filled with children of wonder and men of great morals and values, where amazing stories are told each day and neighbours are caring, where the society creates great citizen, where money is used only to lead a peaceful life - no more than that.

Today, my heart was pained greatly with this news. Somewhere people like us, living in cities, using a/cs all the time, thumbing a thousand gadgets, driving ship sized gas guzzlers - maybe the reason for erratic weathers. Dear farmer, I am deeply sorry. You didn't even know what hit you, right?
