The quantified self

So, the name sounds interesting, doesn't it?
What is quantified self?
From what I get, it could be something as simple as weight, height, BP, pulse, temperature, cholesterol levels, etc.
Most of us, are fairly familiar with this and it sounds like the things your doctor would order once u hit 40.
Few of us are also aware of tools like WeightWatchers, www.myfitnesspal.com, etc to track our weight loss goals. Your office could have some yearly or semi-annual progress tracking for you.
At school we had the report cards which we always dreaded, which made 96 look so bad because someone else scored a centum!

Somehow I stumbled on the following meetup group and the topic caught my attention.

Quantified Self is "self-knowledge through numbers". Tracking, feedback, goals, little self-improvement projects, come share your experiences using technology for personal growth. Tracking your mood with your smart phone? Recording your workouts, diet and/or weight? Using a fitbit, zeo, or heart-rate monitor? Whatever it is, come share with others and learn from their experience as well. Or come just to watch - sharing not required if you're just curious to see what this is about!
If you are presenting, here's a quick tip: The three Quantified Self Questions are: What did you do? How did you do it? What did you learn? Remember, sharing is important and valuable even if you share your failures - you never know when someone else will be trying the same thing and you can help them avoid the mistakes that you made! We want to hear your personal stories, and that means really human things like struggling with motivation, experiencing setbacks, and hopefully, every so often, having a flash of insight!

As if to remind me of this, I stumble upon this from npr.org:

So, I got myself introduced to this new concept. One day, we may have google analytics for ourself!
We used to have websites only for corporations and colleges, etc. Now we have it for the individual.
Similarly, whatever is done for products, we want to do it to ourself, because, for us - we are the world, isn't it.. Let's track what's happening in the world of Quantified selfing in the next few years.
