Titli trending..musings on Chinmayi.. SRK and the common man

No. I am not following twitter trends. I hardly follow any trends. I'm the eternal outcast in everything.
For some strange DIVINE intervention or smart Google ads or whatever - FB showed "Follow Chinmayi" on Hiran's page (not on mine)! I just casually browsed through her profile and sighted SRK, Titli and Deepika. Read a bit and was amazed.

For one, I thought Chinmayi was a very popular singer. I didn't know that she was popular only in the South. So, her reaction to being part of SRK's movie seemed too much initially. Then I realized, it comes partly because of the bad things that happened to her last year (not too aware of the controversy though), her relative non popular status in the North and her age (quite young I should say). She seemed too emotionally moved that SRK praised her. We as viewers can analyse and rubbish or criticise or be sarcastic. But, for a person in her mindset, it would have meant the world. The fact that she cried - touched me too (what's it with women and crying. Whenever I see a character cry on screen you can be sure that I'm doing that on my couch).

She said that at the audio launch:
Shekhar sir introduced me to SRK and I, for one of the first times, asked him for a picture. He obliged and said he was touched by my mother's tweet and asked me to convey his regards to her. Though the word "mindblown" is soo easily thrown about these days, that's exactly what I felt at that point. One that he read my mom's tweet, two he remembered and three he enquired about her. I said I am humbled and cannot imagine that a superstar of his stature would do all that.

Despite talent, some people don't make it. You need a strong support group within the industry you're working. Everyone who has tasted a bit of success should share their struggles and help uplift the newcomers. That's when the world becomes a better place to live.

I have never been a fan of SRK. All the Rahuls and Rohits get on me. For whatever reasons he did the Fair and Handsome ad, he is being targetted. Even something about his son - AbRam has created a lot of controversy. But, for what he did to Chinmayi - I am going to pick and watch some good movie (Maybe jab thak hai jaan) and go to bed with good thoughts.

The mass - is a very dangerous thing. It's the one that makes movies hits. But it's the same mass's intolerance and immaturity and stupidity that can wreak havoc on an artiste. What a fine line they need to walk! No wonder that people like AB play to the gallery. He needs to survive and make money in this industry right? He cannot openly relay his views on any subject without being criticized or mobbed. Hail the common man. We can tweet whatever we want without being harassed.
Can't we - as the public, just enjoy an artists work without interfering in their personal lives - who they're with, what they are wearing, what they are eating, where they're holidaying, why they're doing a certain role, why they do an item number, how many cars they own, etc?

Can we restrict ourselves to just watching their onscreen avatars and commenting on that fictional character they play? Maybe, since actors are role models for most youngsters in this country - we can imbibe their fitness formulas and maybe fashion trends... why poke our nose in more than that?
How would you feel is someone installed a webcam in your bedroom and watched you all the time? You'd lose your mind. Just because they are actors, it shudn't mean we destroy their personal lives. They need to live healthy lives. I am sure, most of these actors silently abuse the masses for what they do to their lives. Atleast a couple of times, in times of controversies, they would have cursed why they became an actor. They need to look cheerful always, look well dressed and well behaved and be politically correct. Do any of us humans behave that way always? Are they robots to be like that always?

How must it feel to receive praise from none other than Shah Rukh Khan for one's work? Chinmayi Sripaada (a South Indian playback singer) felt very emotional and even cried after she received such praise from SRK for her playback singing of "Titli" from Chennai Express.

Soon after the worldwide release of "Titli" on Thursday, Chinmayi tweeted about her happiness and gratefulness for being able to sing "Titli", "And right now delirium of joy happening. Opportunity of a lifetime to sing for an @iamsrk film. Thanks a million @5hekhar and @V1SH4L"

SRK reciprocated Chinmayi's kind words and tweeted, "@Chinmayi u sound lovely in the song....extremely sweet...just like love. thanx a lot."

SRK's tweet left Chinmayi speechless, though she still managed a reply, "@iamsrk Sir. Honoured. I'm going to frame this tweet. And also update my bio :p"

Later in the day, Chinmayi's mother T. Padmhasini, a singer and musicologist herself, posted on Twitter what happened to her daughter after receiving the praise for her singing from SRK, "A day which has made me incredibly thankful to God and happy for Chinmayi. The blast #titli has brought and the unexpected tweets from SRK ji, call from Shekarji and some of our most trusted and beloved friends have brought a reaction in Chinmayi. Holding on to the cell on hand with @iamsrk ji's tweet in it she started to cry uncontrollably. Two of my friends waited for her to regain but it did not happen for some time. Then seeing the #titli trending on a mad speed for that one word from SRK, again she was out, emotional. From Chennai to Mumbai to India to world it showed trending and we would have never imagined such a thing existed. Power of the three letters SRK!! I am beginning to understand a few things now. So far we used to do a job and pray for the film in general to succeed. Many a time the songs also won big appreciations. Several times we thanked God for small mercies, but this is an incredible mercy!"

Must say, Chinmayi has done a great job for "Titli" and deserves all the praise coming her way.
She is a very versatile singer - look at her voice in "oru theivam thandha" and "Sahaana" and "Kilimanjaro". Maybe heart of hearts she must have felt that Shreya goshal stole the thunder right under her nose. Poor girl... I am surprised why she is not the best singer of recent times...
