Brain ev - mind gyms

While reading calmdownmind I read abt some system called Brainev.
It sounded quite fascinating.

These are 2 reviews of brainev.

What is brainwave entrainment by the way?

http://www.mind-expanding-techniques.net/brainwave-entrainment.html
How many times have you fallen asleep in a car, train or boat as a passenger? You think that it is related to your energy levels?

When driving to a very long and straight highway, how do you feel after a while?  You might catch yourself daydreaming and thinking while at the same time feeling absolutely relaxed. Have you wondered why? You think that the trip is just boring?

When I was in military service we used to be transferred with C-130 military cargo aircraft. These planes have no sound insulation materials (for weight reduction) and the noise in its cabin is terrible and unforgettable. When the plane gets off, the noise pollution drives you crazy.

Well, this happens for the first 20-30 minutes, after that all the passengers were dreaming and sleeping peacefully like birds… including me. The flight once was for about 3 hours. I was sleeping for 2 hours.

So what is common with all these cases? All these are examples of BWE. Let’s see what it is finally.

Brainwave entrainment is a way to promote a specific frequency for your brainwaves to follow. If you could check a functioning human brain under a microscope you could see that the brain’s neurons transmit electrical pulses. These are called brainwaves. The number of pulses that a neuron transmits in a second is called frequency.

The human brain it is not operating in a single brainwave frequency. Different areas of the brain may have different frequencies. What it determines a brain state is the dominant frequency of the brain; the frequency of the most brainwaves.

Numerous research and daily examples have proven that the human brain reacts to external stimuli that are perceived through the human senses. This means that the brain tries to synchronize its dominant brainwave frequency with that of the external stimulus. This is not an assumption anymore but a fact. This procedure is called Brainwave Entrainment.

How it works

Any external stimulus applied for over 15 minutes at a stable frequency is capable to alter the brainwaves. After many years of research, there have been developed some very effective methods. We will see these methods in a while.

Target Frequencies

The BWE has one purpose; to alter your dominant brainwave frequency. The brainwave frequencies have been classified into ranges. Starting from the lower frequency to the higher, these are as follows:

  • Delta (0.5 – 4Hz)
  • Theta (4 – 7Hz)
  • Alpha (7 – 13Hz)
  • Beta (13 – 30Hz)
  • Gamma (30 – 100Hz)

Every frequency is associated with a different brain state. With Brainwave entrainment you stimulate the brain to reproduce a specific brain state on demand. There are known brain states associated with the above frequency ranges.  Read more on Brainwave Frequencies and Brain States.

Auditory stimulation has a powerful effect on the frequency activity of the brain. Rhythmic sound waves entering the ears results in a phenomenon called “entrainment” whereby brainwaves match and resonate at the same frequency as the stimulating audio frequency.
There is considerable evidence that auditory entrainment is a replicable physical phenomenon. The use of auditory entrainment to challenge and stimulate the brain appears to result in improved functioning on intelligence tests, achievement tests, and behavior.

Let the mind dream and let the life forces work to materialize it for you.

A mind that becomes conscious of its privilege of being a co-creator with life, is aligned with its true potential. The true potential of a mind is to create a “vision” for a desired reality, this vision is taken up by the wholeness of life and there is a movement towards its manifestation in the context of totality. The mind is a visionary, life is its manager – the required ideas, actions, resources and maturity, required for the fulfillment of this vision is automatically generated by the intelligence of your life-stream when you are no longer resisting it.

Remember that the real job/potential of your mind is to create vision of its desired reality and all minds are well designed to do this. Your mind’s job is not to figure out “how” it’s going to manifest the desired reality, but rather to stay allowing of life’s intelligence to orchestrate the required events to bring forth the manifestation. The required ideas and actions will be originated in you in a place of inspiration from the intelligence of your life stream. Don’t force your mind to figure out how to manifest a reality, because the mind in its limited intelligence and conditioning does not have the “bigger picture” to know what’s the best path to take for the manifestation of a certain vision.
When you allow your mind to stand true to its potential of being a visionary, it will do a great job of it and feel extremely confident in the knowing that it does not have to sit and figure out the details of how to manifest the vision. The intelligence of your life stream has the big picture, it knows the most harmonious path to the manifestation of your mind’s desired reality, it will generate the right ideas/actions in you at the right time, and create synchronicities that will lead to an effortless manifestation.

What is thing called subconscious?

http://www.calmdownmind.com/programming-your-subconscious-mind/

Actually, subconscious mind is nothing but the “neural pathways” that have been established in your brain as result of your past beliefs and conditioning. During your unconscious existence, when you weren’t aware enough, you ended up imbibing a lot of limiting beliefs, negative conditioning and misguided perceptions about life, that you took to be “true” and hence believed in them enough to create strong neural pathways in your brain about them – causing these patterns of thought to become “subconscious”. Neural pathways are physical links. Once you consciously see through a negativity, or a negative belief, within you, the neural pathway associated with that negativity will take time to come down, even when you are no longer supporting it consciously – it could well take a few months for a neural pathway, associated with a pattern of thought, to come down fully.

A lot of people who realize certain truths, and gain clarity, feel frustrated that their brain is not able to sync up with this understanding. The basic deal is that your conscious mind has gained the understanding, but your subconscious mind is yet to get programmed in it – it still has strong neural pathways associated with the old beliefs, conditioning and thought pattern. The conscious mind can get it immediately, and you can feel a sense of relief and elation on getting the clarity, but the very next day you can come up against the subconscious mind that starts churning out the old patterns. When you lack an understanding of how the subconscious mind works, you can easily start beating yourself up for being “slow”, or for regressing back to negativity after a day of being enlightened/clear about it – and of course this behavior of feeling bad about yourself just reinforces the old patterns of negativity.

To program your subconscious mind, with the present “conscious” understanding that you’ve gained, will take time, and you need to make an allowance for it, understanding that it’s a physical process of bringing down the old neural pathways in your brain. In fact these neural pathways are constantly reinforced by your current reality, because your present reality is by itself a web that you’ve interwoven through your thought patterns, so for a while you would need to create a rift in this unconscious reinforcement by consciously dis-identifying with the negativity in your present external reality. The word “dis-identification” is confusing to a lot of people, but all it really means is that you stop buying into the negativity – stop showering it with your belief, stop finding identity in it and stop defending it.

Let’s say you’ve managed to create a disconnected/negative reality for yourself through the various negative thoughts patterns you are holding subconsciously, and now you’ve become conscious of it and want to break out of this pattern, so that you can change your reality into positive. Your brain, however, will subconsciously want the “negative reinforcement” because its neural pathways are vying for the same to sustain themselves, it’s like a creature wanting food to survive.

The reason why staying in a space of relaxed awareness works at bringing down patterns of negativity is because,

You are not trying hard to sort out the brain’s noise, instead you are just allowing of it, this ensures that you are not buying into the loop of trying to solve the mind’s problem with the same pattern of thinking that created it. This state of allowing causes you to connect with the space of being, or space of your life-stream (or your inner being, whatever you want to call it) that allows for true solutions/understanding to come through to bring a lasting transformation to your mind and reality.

As you develop a stability in this space of awareness, you start understanding that the mind is not a “big deal”, it’s just a machine which can be worked with, instead of being fearful of it. You realize that you need to understand your mind, get to know its natural makeup and align with it, while letting go of negativity/resistance that keeps you from living your expression, or which resists the unfolding of your desired reality.

Staying in relaxed awareness automatically re-programs your subconscious mind to align with your conscious understanding. This is because, your awareness holds your conscious understanding and thus just staying in a space of awareness allows you to not only let go of reinforcing negative patterns but also allows you to register this conscious understanding into your subconscious (to build new neural pathways that contain this new understanding).

Realization, or a moment of awakening, can happen as soon as you have a conscious understanding/insight coming in. However, a realization does not automatically ensure that you start living it immediately. You can only truly live your realization (at a 100%) when it gets programmed into your subconscious. This is the reason why people who have a low awareness may have a moment of realization but fall back into unconsciously reinforcing their old patterns quite soon – this is because they lack a stability in their awareness to sustain a gap between their mind’s subconscious pull and their conscious understanding.

Developing a stability in awareness is the pre-requisite, for anyone who has a low awareness of their mind, before they can re-program their subconscious patterns.

http://www.calmdownmind.com/subconscious-mind-and-your-reality/

A human brain works on “thought patterns”, which are nothing but “programming” that has been indented into its neural network.  The truth is that “subconscious” patterns are simply thought patterns that have been thought so many times that they’ve become ingrained as an “auto” mode of functioning.
You must understand that subconscious patterns are always running in “auto” mode in the brain, because at some point you took these patterns to be the truth of your life and invested belief in them to the point where they became “ingrained” patterns.
When you think a thought long enough, it automatically goes into “auto” mode because the neural pathways for this thought become strongly embedded in the neural network of your brain. For example, when you learn to drive a car it’s a very conscious effort initially, but after a few months the patterns become so embedded in the brain that the whole action of driving becomes subconscious or “auto” mode. When you keep thinking a positive thought about yourself, or your life, it will soon become subconscious in your brain, and will start running on “auto mode”.

Thoughts and identity

What is thought? Why do different people think of different things? How can I silence the noise in my head? These are questions that I ponder. I saw a podcast yesterday which says that identifying with things is the cause of thoughts. The mind creates identity and the mind is a lie.

Why do we want to escape reality? Why does reality seem mundane and uphill?
Why do we all hope for better things in the future? When that future comes, we are still not satisfied. The mind has deceived us. It has made us move to a new point, only to change the goal again, hasn't it? Why does the mind promise happiness but always makes us unhappy with the present? Somewhere in the context of mind - time plays an important factor. Osho says that time is a product of the mind. While I dig more, here are some interwoven thoughts.

Osho on dreams (daydreaming included) and reality:
We live in a deep illusion – the illusion of hope, of future, of tomorrow. As man is, man cannot exist
without self-deceptions. Nietzsche says somewhere that man cannot live with the true: he needs
dreams, he needs illusions, he needs lies to exist. And Nietzsche is true. As man is he cannot exist
with the truth. This has to be understood very deeply because without understanding it, there can
be no entry into the inquiry which is called yoga.
The mind has to be understood deeply – the mind which needs lies, the mind which needs illusions,
the mind which cannot exist with the real, the mind which needs dreams. You are not dreaming
only in the night. Even while awake, you are dreaming continuously. You may be looking at me, you
may be listening to me, but a dream current goes on within you. Continuously, the mind is creating
dreams, images, fantasies.
Now scientists say that a man can live without sleep, but he cannot live without dreams. In old
days it was understood that sleep is a necessity, but now modern research says sleep is not really
a necessity. Sleep is needed only so that you can dream. Dream is the necessity.

Eckhart Tolle
“The most common ego identifications have to do with possessions, the work you do, social status and recognition, knowledge and education, physical appearance, special abilities, relationships, person and family history, belief systems, and often nationalistic, racial, religious, and other collective identifications. None of these is you.”

Does the body have a mind?

I have been wondering. There have been times when my body has acted on its own.
In situations which it perceives as a threat it freezes. It goes tight and I start behaving differently.

So, let's say I am meeting a person I do not trust or appreciate, my body automatically behaves in a fight mode. I cannot empathise with that person. Even in a bodily way I treat them as a threat - an enemy. I have never observed this earlier but nowadays I do. Our fears and emotions get deeply embedded in the body. When the response is this physical, this automatic even I - my rational thinking mind has no power. The power of the body's response is so high compared to the mind. The mind doesn't have any power and speed when the body reacts this way.

So, I googled the mind body connection and found this. So apt.

A book by Deb Shapiro:

"All your thoughts and feelings get translated into chemicals that fire off throughout your body, altering the chemical composition and behavior of your cells." ~ Deb Shapiro

If you have ever wondered how emotions affect the body, then "Your Body Speaks Your Mind" is an excellent place to start. Not only will you be able to understand your symptoms, you will also know how to eradicate them. This book contains many answers, especially to the following questions:

How do neuropeptides carry information from the mind to the body?
Do all diseases have their origin in the mind?
How do unresolved emotions affect your health?
Why are certain feelings linked to specific body parts?
What are the specific steps you can take to heal the body with your mind?

Your emotions and past experiences affect your body.
Your mind is reflected in every part of the body.
Loneliness, sadness, depression affect your body as much as happiness, hopefulness and optimism can.
Every part of the body is the mind expressing itself through that part.
All your thoughts and feelings get translated to chemicals that fire off throughout your body altering the chemical composition and behaviour of the cells.
Your body takes clues from your mind and language is the path.

So, though I have known these through word of mouth I will consciously pay attention to my emotions, thoughts, feelings and beliefs and how they affect my body.

Our energy, experiences, emotions or beliefs can get energetically stored within the body.
Our thoughts, body, emotions and feelings are all energy related.
